Typhoon Hagibis: Why Hagibis is more dangerous than other typhoons

Strength

Typhoon Hagibis is, at present, the equivalent of a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Boasting winds of 140mph, the NOAA recently hailed it as the “strongest storm on earth”, and the Japanese Meteorological Agency expects it will continue to pack a punch as it makes landfall.

According to Japan’s national news agency NHK, Hagibis will land in the Chubu and Kanto regions with wind speeds of 100mph.

The last storm to command this much power was Typhoon Jebi in 2018, the second most costly typhoon in Japanese history.
