Man Utd beating Leicester proves why Chelsea and Arsenal will make top four – Ian Darke

Manchester United’s victory over Leicester City last month shows why the Foxes will not make the Premier League top four this season, claims commentator Ian Darke.

Leicester currently sit fourth in the Premier League table after eight games of the campaign.

Many have tipped Brendan Rodgers’ side to break into the Champions League qualification places for the first time since they won the league in 2016.

But Darke disagrees and has backed Chelsea and Arsenal to join Liverpool and Manchester City.

He says Leicester’s 1-0 loss against United at Old Trafford showed why they will miss out.

“I’m going to go with the bookmakers, I’m going to go Arsenal and Chelsea,” Darke said on ESPN FC.

“Obviously Arsenal’s defence is a bit of a question mark. Leicester City, I just don’t think they’ll make the top four.

“They had that game at Manchester United recently and everybody said ‘yeah, Leicester City, they’re probably going to go there and win, beat Manchester United’.

“They didn’t, they were beaten. That was a little bit disappointing and they were flat that day.

“Chelsea, yeah, a lot of good young kids coming through, they seem to be improving for Frank Lampard so I think them and I think the goals of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette will get Arsenal in the top four.”

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Scotland defender Steve Nicol agrees with Darke, claiming both Chelsea and Arsenal will finish above Leicester.

“I’m going to go Chelsea and Arsenal as well,” Nicol said.

“I think Arsenal haven’t been quite at their best but have still go themselves into third spot.

“They’re pretty much a home banker these days, away from home not so, but their home form is going to get them in the top four.

“I don’t think Leicester can sustain it.”
