Leeds United are monitoring the situation of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, it’s been claimed.
The Leeds hierarchy are already searching for a potential successor to Marcelo Bielsa, in case he decides to leave Elland Road at the end of the season.
Bielsa almost left Leeds this summer, after the club failed to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
And, according to Football Insider, Leeds fully expect him to move on if they don’t make it into the top division for next season.
If he were to leave, Gerrard would reportedly be a prime contender to take over.
The former England international impressed Leeds chiefs after a decent first season at Rangers.
They were already monitoring Gerrard last summer, in case Bielsa didn’t renew his contract.
The Argentine boss held lengthy talks with Leeds before committing another 12 months at Elland Road this summer.
Leeds started the season as firm favourites for automatic promotion from the Championship this season.
But, the Whites have hit a rocky patch after a superb start to the campaign, and have only recorded one win from their past four league fixtures.
Bielsa’s side are currently fifth in the Championship, level on points with sixth-placed Bristol City.
West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest are leading the way on 22 points at the top of the table after 11 matches.
There’s only three points separating first from ninth in the Championship, however.
Meanwhile, Gerrard has seen his Rangers side leapfrog Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Two successive 5-0 wins has meant that the Gers went two points clear of the arch rivals.
They’ve also scored more goals than Celtic this season, and conceded fewer goals.
