Dan Walker lost for words after 'heartbreaking' BBC interview: ‘Don’t know what to say’

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker thanked viewers for getting in touch with their praise following Louise Minchin’s interview with the parents of Harry Dunn. He said he was “heartbroken” over the story on social media.

Harry, 19, died after a car collided with his motorbike in Northamptonshire on August 27 earlier this year.

Anna Sacoolas, who is a suspect in the investigation into his death, left the UK.

Today, Harry’s parents appeared on BBC Breakfast to plead with Ms Sacoolas to return and waive the diplomatic immunity she claimed before heading back to the US.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn told Louise they’ve heard “absolutely nothing” from Ms Sacoolas.

Speaking after the interview took place, Dan told viewers: “We should say, thank you for the huge response to Louise’s interview with Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, who are the parents of Harry Dunn.

“That is our main story this morning. It’s one of those interviews where after you’ve done it, if you listen to their heartbreaking story, it’s hard to know what to say at the end of it, isn’t it?”

“It’s their story isn’t it,” Louise replied. “And you’ve just got to give them the time to tell it and they certainly did that.

“So in the last few minutes, the parents of 19-year-old Harry Dunn who was killed when a car collided with his motorbike near RAF Croughton, told us they really can’t grieve for his son, until the person responsible for his death is brought to justice.”

Dan also took to his official Twitter account to comment on the story.

In view of his 579,600 followers, he wrote: “Absolutely heartbreaking listening to Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn – the grieving parents of Harry Dunn – on #BBCBreakfast this morning.”

Those tuning into BBC Breakfast were also left heartbroken by the interview.

“Well I was all ready for work and now I have to redo my make up – what a terribly sad account from 2 heartbroken parents,” one viewer shared.
