Kevin Clifton: Strictly pro reveals why 'useless' Anneka Rice was ‘thrown out of class’

Speaking to listeners on his podcast The Kevin Clifton show, Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, 37, thanked his fans for voting for himself and Anneka Rice, 60, on Saturday night.

He then went on to highlight Anneka is a beginner at dance as he recalled a time she was “thrown out” of a ballet class.

Revealing all, he said: “I just wanted to say a massive thank you to any of you who voted for me and Anneka Rice on this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing.

“Anneka comes into Strictly with zero experience of dance, she’s never danced.

“She told me when she was about six she went to a ballet class but got thrown out of the ballet class because she was completely useless,” he added, laughing.

“And she was told she’s never going to be good enough, she’s too stiff and all the rest of it.”

Kevin, who is dating Strictly 2018 winner Stacey Dooley, went on to say the criticism Anneka received had put her off dancing ever since.

He added: “So, it’s always been one of those things for her, her whole life, she’s said she likes watching dance and loves painting dancers and all that kind of stuff.

“She’s really into dance but never felt she could do it because of what happened when she was a kid.”

Last weekend, Kevin and Anneka danced a Waltz to Whitney Houston’s hit Run To You.

The show’s four judges scored them 19 points out of a possible 40.

Before her performance, Anneka Rice told fans she was “mortified” by a wardrobe malfunction in rehearsals.

The radio host shared a picture of her sat on a table while a photographer took a picture of her backstage.

In view of her 27,000 followers, she wrote: “It’s a full-on day this ⁦@bbcstrictly⁩ malarkey.

“Now there’s a photographer in my dressing room’. Honestly, it would be weird if there wasn’t. 6.40pm tonight! #strictly #madness.”

She added: “PS… Am mortified. I actually wore my Spanx back to front for the dress rehearsal. Being Strictified is taking time.”(sic)

Despite her concerns, many of the star’s fans flocked to her post to comment.

One user wrote: “You are a great listener to @keviclifton and perform his instructions beautifully. And above all…. you wear a dress well!!!”

“Lovely frock you looked gorgeous,” a second added.

This weekend, Kevin and Anneka will perform the Charleston to Woo Hoo from the movie Kill Bill.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 7.10pm on BBC One.
