Rio Ferdinand wedding: Football ace, 40, and Kate Wright, 28, ‘marry’ in lavish ceremony

Rio Ferdinand, 40, and Kate Wright, 28, are said to have exchanged vows on Friday evening, with the Mayor of Marmaris, Mehmet Oktay, claiming that he officiated the ceremony in Turkey, according to reports. The couple announced their engagement in November 2018 after two years of dating, after the professional footballer proposed to the TOWIE star in Abu Dhabi. An onlooker told the MailOnline “It was quite the party.”https://www.express.co.uk/”You could hear the music and the cheering throughout the hotel. The whole pool area had been sealed off, even for us.”

Rio’s three children Lorenz, 13, Tate, and Tia, eight, were all at Friday’s ceremony, along with the couple’s other close family members.

Bride Kate is said to have invited just one of her former TOWIE castmates, Lydia Bright to the ceremony.

According to Daily Sabah, the Mayor of Marmaris told Demirören News Agency (DHA) that he officiated the wedding of the couple on Friday night in front of a crowd of guests.

Mehmet Oktay said: “Both the couple and the guests told me that they enjoyed Marmaris a lot. Ferdinand said they will visit Marmaris in the years to come.”

The reality star and her beau reportedly invited around 100 guests to their wedding at the luxurious D Maris Bay hotel.

It comes after it was widely reported that the couple were finally set to tie the knot, ten months after announcing their engagement.

Earlier this week, a source told The Sun: “All their family and friends are already there. Phones have been taken from everyone — nobody has one.”

The former England star first started dating Kate in late 2016, following the death of his first wife Rebecca Ellison in 2015 – who is the mother of his three children.

Earlier this year, Kate appeared on This Morning where she insisted her priority to the children was to keep the memory of their late mum alive.

She told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “You only have one mum, their mum is irreplaceable.

“There’s a special room in the house, for their mum and their nan – they might do homework there for example.

“We always celebrate Rebecca’s birthday, we all go to the cemetery together. We do talk about their mum, I know a lot more about her than they think.”

Rio and Kate recently opened up about getting engaged with the former Manchester United footballer addressing his “wedding day” with Kate this summer.

In an interview with OK! magazine, Rio revealed his three children urged the couple to get married.

He spilled: “They want to play a part on a wedding day. My little girl wants a replica dress and all this stuff.

“The kids do talk about the a lot: ‘What role am I playing? Am I holding the ring? Who’s doing this?’ They have it planned.”
