The surprising reason Eugenie ditched York tiara at wedding – will Beatrice wear it?

Princess Eugenie is the granddaughter of the Queen, 93, and daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, both 59. On 12 October 2018, she tied the knot at a ceremony which took place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. She wore a long-sleeved wedding dress which was designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos. Like most royal brides, she chose to wear a tiara but surprised fans by skipping out on the York tiara which was worn by her mother. What will Princess Beatrice wear?

Princess Eugenie wore the lavish Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara which is from the Queen’s collection, Ben Johnston, MD at Miltons Diamonds, told Express.co.uk.

He said: “The centre gemstone is a beautiful green cabochon cut Emerald that is 93.70 carats. The frame is made out of platinum and features a further five emeralds and rose-cut pave set diamonds.

“To complete her beautiful look, Princess Eugenie wore some stunning emerald drop diamond earrings which were a wedding gift from the groom. These beautiful earrings work in perfect harmony with the tiara.”

Some royal enthusiasts had expected her to wear the York tiara which had been gifted to Sarah Ferguson and believed to still be in her possession.

When the Duchess of York married, she wore the glamorous tiara and it was the first time it was seen in public.

The headpiece was thought to be a gift from the Queen and had delicate scrolls and a large, central diamond on top.

However, by choosing a headpiece with a large central emerald, Princess Eugenie could still have been honouring her mother at her nuptials.

“The Duchess of York has described in the past how, after the breakup of her marriage to Prince Andrew, it was the Irish who helped her through her lowest moments,” Ben said.

“Princess Eugenie may have chosen the green Emerald as a nod to the Irish for helping her mum through the dark times and also as a nod to her grandmother, who is Irish and a descendant of the Wicklow Powerscourt family.”

Yesterday, Princess Eugenie took to Instagram to gush over the engagement of her sister, Princess Beatrice, who was presented with a £60,000 ring.

It was confirmed the royal will marry in 2020 and is likely to choose a headpiece from the royal collection.

Since the York tiara was passed by Eugenie, Princess Beatrice may choose to wear her mother’s tiara instead.

The ring was a unique creation which was made using a special form of sapphire circled by diamonds.

When the jewel was revealed, some fans noticed its close resemblance to the engagement ring Sarah was given by Prince Andrew as this had a similar circular diamond design.

Just before saying “I do”, Princess Eugenie and her husband moved into a property at Kensington Palace in London.

They opted for one of the more modest residences there as they stay in the Ivy Cottage.
