WW3 fears: Russia claims Trump still has not sent proposal to avoid nuclear war

Tass News agency reports Moscow has been waiting one year for the document from the United States to the proposal to confirm their refusal to start what would likely be considered World War 3 if a nuclear war broke out. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organisations in Vienna, said: “In a month, it will be exactly one year since Russia proposed to the US to make a joint statement confirming that there can be no winner in a nuclear war, and that it should not be started. “We are still expecting a response. It looks like the US found maintaining silence to be the best option.”

The remarks come after Russia hit out at US President Donald Trump following last week’s attack on Saudi Arabian oil reserves.

Two major oil facilities were attacked by Yemeni Houthi rebels in what was an “unprecedented” hit on oil reserves in the country.

A rebel spokesman confirmed the attack by 10 drones and resulted in halving the country’s daily oil production.

Following that bold attack, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova ridiculed Washington over its missile systems which failed to protect the oil sites.

Ms Zakharova boasted that the “brilliant US air defense systems could not repel an attack”.

The official also reminded onlookers over how “the fantastic U.S. missiles that failed to hit a target more than a year ago”.

She also added: “These are all links in a chain.

“This self-exposure is happening in a specific region in the context of what the US is doing and can offer the modern world.”

President Trump puled out of the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, sparking further tensions with Russia as Moscow is an ally to Tehran.

As well as the possibility of nuclear war, fears are also rising over a third Gulf war as Iran threatened a crushing a response to any military strikes.

However, the Islamic Republic confirmed it has no desire for conflict in the Gulf region.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said: “The region has become intense. They make propaganda about damage (in Saudi) which can be repaired in two weeks because America wants to conquer the region.

“All countries of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and the United Nations are invited to join.”

The president said he would introduce a regional peace plan dubbed HOPE (Hormuz Peace Endeavour) at the United Nations General Assembly this week.

Increased sanctions by Washington has prohibited the sale of Iranian oil which has slashed Tehran’s economy by 80 percent.

French President Emmanuel Macron has tried to ease tensions and has floated the idea of offering Iran around $15billion in credit lines until the end of this year if Tehran comes fully back into compliance with its 2015 nuclear deal.

However President Rouhani has given Europe a two month deadline to find a solution.
