Rugby World Cup top scorer: Who is the leading points scorer at the Rugby World Cup?

Any side vying to win the ninth instalment of the Rugby World Cup will have to put some serious points on the board.

As much as the forwards are required to do the dirty work and gain possession, it is the backs who usually come up with the goods.

Four years ago in England, Argentina’s Nicolas Sanchez was the top points scorer with a tally of 97 as the Pumas reached the semi-finals.

The fly-half was potent through the posts all tournament while scoring one try and is back to do it all again in Japan.

Sanchez faces competition from the likes of New Zealand’s Sevu Reece, though, who is tipped to top the charts this tournament.

The wing only began playing for the Kiwis this season but is one of the most highly-rated players on the international stage.

Team-mate Rieko Ioane is also expected to be one of the most prolific scorers in Japan, while England’s Jonny May has a good chance.

So, who are the top point scorers at the Rugby World Cup 2019 so far?
