Paris riots: Furious clashes on streets of France as protest spirals out of control

Up to 7,500 police in riot gear scrambled Paris after thousands of climate change activists held a mass protest that escalated into violence with stones and even bricks hurled at officers. Shocking pictures showed protesters tear huge concrete bricks from walls and throw them as well as stones at police. Officers deployed tear gas to quell the horrific scenes. The beautiful city was trashed in other pictures, with fires started after objects like tables, chairs and even motorcycles were piled high and set alight.

One terrifying picture shows a man attempting to out out a fire on a heap of wheelie bins, with some melted into a green pulp.

Other pictures show buildings defaced and coffee shops and restaurants with their windows smashed and spray painted on.

It remains unknown just how many activists protested yesterday but another photo shows tens of thousands of them in the streets waving placards and banners.

The protests are another day in the life for those living in Paris.

Yellow Vest protesters have hit the streets in angry demonstrations against French President Emmanuel Macron’s 23 percent fuel hike.

Protests have been going on consecutively every single weekend since last November.

Up to nine people were killed after being caught up in violence that saw buildings gutted by fires, cars set alight and landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe drawn on.

The French economy suffered as a result of the mayhem.

They claim police fired tear gas to disperse he crowd, which caused people to fall into the adjacent river.

Up to 14 people had to be pulled out of the water and rescued.

Violence in the area sparkled a major security crackdown, but the situation is once again getting out of control as protesters gather around memorials for Mr Canico.

Up to 89 people have since filed complaints against French authorities for “putting other people’s life and security in danger”.
