Frozen 2 trailer: Does Elsa have a girlfriend in Frozen 2? Kristen Bell responds

Frozen 2 fans are already preparing to make a return to their local cinema to watch the next film in the Disney franchise. Earlier this year, a trailer released by Disney did leave some fans a little confused. A slew of questions about the sequel are forefront in people’s minds – with one question in particular taking precedence.

Does Elsa have a girlfriend in Frozen 2?

Nothing has been officially confirmed by filmmakers, but some of those involved in Frozen 2 have reiterated how the heart of Frozen is not to do with romance.

Frozen 2 songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez told IGN: “Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest.

“There’s so many movies that define a woman by her romantic interest.

“That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time.

“What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?”

FROZEN 2 TRAILER: ELSA AND ANNA ARE BACK IN MYSTERIOUS FIRST TEASER

But earlier this year, actress Kristen Bell (the voice of Anna in the film) responded cryptically to a fan who called for Elsa to get a girlfriend in the next film.

She just simply said: “Hmmmm…..”, suggesting she may be up for a lesbian character in the franchise.

Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, has also joined in with fans who are desperate to see Elsa be a lesbian.

Back in 2016, she said: “I think it’s great. Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out.”

FROZEN 2 RELEASE DATE: WHEN IS FROZEN SEQUEL OUT IN CINEMAS?

Frozen’s co-director Jennifer Lee said: “I love everything people are saying and thinking about with our film―that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people.

“It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.

“Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things.

“For me … Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us.

“I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day.

“We’ll see where we go.”

FROZEN 2 TRAILER: ELSA AND ANNA ARE BACK IN MYSTERIOUS FIRST TEASER

The desire to make Elsa a lesbian started as Let It Go, the theme song from the first Frozen movie, became a powerful LGBT+ anthem.

The trailer then sparked further conversations, when a girl seemed to set Elsa’s pulse racing.

Back in July, The Wrap revealed that Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K Brown were to play two new characters, and though it is not explicit, the trailer does show a glimpse of this new character.

She is a girl with long brown hair who watches as a blonde man is suddenly flung up from a pile of autumn leaves.

The final moment shows the five main characters overlooking what appears to be a new land.
