The Chelsea star who Stamford Bridge fans gave biggest cheer to before Valencia clash

Chelsea star Tammy Abraham got the loudest cheer of the night from Blues fans before their Champions League showdown with Valencia on Tuesday.

The Blues face off against the La Liga giants aiming for a winning start to their European campaign.

And when the Chelsea stadium announcer read out the starting line-ups, it was Abraham who the Stamford Bridge crowd seemed to respond to the best.

Loud cheers greeted the 21-year-old when he walked out on the pitch and warmed up with his Chelsea team-mates and again when his name was read out.

There was, though, a very slight sprinkling of boos for Willian, among a largely positive reaction to the winger.

The Chelsea star is a divisive figure among some supporters and a small portion appeared unhappy with Frank Lampard’s decision to play him above of Pedro.

Pedro has instead had to settle for a place on the Blues bench with Mason Mount also getting the nod.

And, although most of the Chelsea crowd gave him a cheer, a few quiet boos were heard when Willian’s name was read out.

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of today’s Champions league showdown, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher hailed Abraham.

And he admitted he was sceptical as to whether or not the 21-year-old could lead the line for Lampard’s team this season.

“I was still of the opinion that Olivier Giroud should be first-team striker and that Tammy Abraham should be the bit-part player,” Carragher said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

“This shows that Frank Lampard knows more about Chelsea’s young players than I do.”

Carragher also praised Abraham for his hat-trick for Chelsea against Wolves on Saturday.

“[Abraham’s] performance was absolutely fantastic, not just against Wolves, but throughout this whole season,” Carragher added.

“I do feel like Chelsea are different to Manchester United because they weren’t able to buy anyone.

“For Chelsea, speaking to fans, they’re just happy that to see young players scoring.

“They’ve won everything already, they want to keep winning but this is something they’ve never had before.”
