Mason Mount limps out of Valencia Champions League clash as Chelsea handed injury blow

Chelsea star Mason Mount limped off the Stamford Bridge pitch during the Blues’ Champions League clash against Valencia.

He clashed with former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin, and was unable to continue.

Coquelin caught Mount on the shin with his boot, after the youngster managed to steal the ball away from him.

Mount was subsequently substituted in the 15th minute of the tie, with Spaniard Pedro taking his place.

“Having struggled since Coquelin’s awful challenge, Mason Mount’s evening has come to an end,” Chelsea tweeted.

“The young Blue makes way for Pedro.”

Chelsea fans urged VAR to take action against the Valencia midfielder, and wanted a red card for the challenge.

“Should’ve been a red card… where’s VAR when you need it? disgraceful,” replied one Twitter user.

“Agenda against Chelsea. It was a red,” said one Chelsea fan.

Another added: “That was a red. I don’t wanna sound negative but way it looked I don’t know how Mount could even stand up. Horrible challenge.”

“HELLO? VAR? RED CARD? SOMETHING?” said another Chelsea fan.

Mount appeared visibly distraught at having to leave the pitch against Valencia, after making his first appearance in the Champions League.

He was seen shaking his head while being ushered from the field by the Chelsea medical team.

Coquelin, meanwhile, apologised to Mount while he was on the ground.

Lampard decided to replace the England international with Pedro, while Christian Pulisic remained on the bench.
