Suzann Pettersen announces retirement after winning Solheim Cup for Europe against USA

Suzann Pettersen has retired from professional golf after winning the Solheim Cup with Europe.

Europe’s women reclaimed the Solheim Cup in the most thrilling finish in the competition’s history when they beat the United States 14.5-13.5 at Gleneagles.

Pettersen scored the winning putt in her match against Marina Alex, sparking wild celebrations from the Europe camp.

But it’ll be Pettersen’s final action in competitive golf as she called time on her career following the win.

She said: “I think this is a perfect end for my professional career. It does not get any better.

“I never thought I was going to be here four months ago. To have the confidence from Beany (Matthew) to give me a go, this is it. I am completely done.

“I don’t have any plans from tomorrow. I am pretty much closing it down.”
