Liverpool backed to beat Man Utd to Jadon Sancho transfer – ‘It would not surprise me’

Whatever happens this season, Manchester United will not be the only club interested in signing Jadon Sancho next summer.

He may have recently penned a new Borussia Dortmund contract worth £190,000-a-week, but the winger has expressed an interest in a return to England or a move to La Liga.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the England international his top transfer target last summer but failed to convince Sancho to leave the Bundesliga, where he is having the time of his life since moving from Manchester City in 2017.

Now Liverpool have been backed to enter the race by former striker Peter Crouch, because the 19-year-old is the perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s rock-and-roll brand of attacking football.

“What he did to launch his career deserves huge praise,” he wrote in his column with the Daily Mail.

“It couldn’t have been easy leaving England to play club football in Germany, but he looks destined to become a superstar and I thought he was superb against Kosovo.

“The easy thing for him to do would have been to remain at Manchester City, get paid well and make the odd appearance off the bench, but he stepped out of his comfort zone to join Borussia Dortmund and you can see how much he is enjoying himself.

“The more I see of Sancho, the more I am convinced he is going to be the one who explodes on to the scene.

“All being well, he will return to the Premier League.

“Clubs will be queuing up to sign him and while there has been noise about him joining Manchester United, I wonder whether Liverpool might actually be the perfect fit.

“It would not surprise me to see him at Anfield.”

Liverpool are yet to register any kind of interest in Sancho, while United have already made contact over a potential deal.

Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc opened up on meetings between the German club and the Red Devils regarding Sancho in episode three of Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing’ series.

The clip, which was filmed back in March, shows Signal Iduna Park bigwigs Matthias Sammer, Sebastian Kehl and chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke in a meeting.

Zorc said: “A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United. Both his discussions with the club and mine with the consultants.

“A meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the consultant.

“But according to what I know, the consultant told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won’t let him go this summer.

“But the player also has no intention of taking that step this summer.”
