Kim Kardashian Tests Positive For Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis in KUWK Premiere

During the season premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian-West visited her doctor after experiencing pain in her wrists that was much worse than the pain she felt when she received her carpal tunnel diagnosis last year. After undergoing blood tests, her doctor revealed that Kim K.’s antibodies tested positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

“Lately, my wrists have started to hurt again, but it’s definitely a different feeling than before. I feel this, like, in my bones,” said Kardashian in a scene from the September 8th premiere episode.

She added that the pain was so severe it was preventing her from doing everyday activities, like picking up a toothbrush or fastening her bra.

The doctor visit took place before her surrogate gave birth to her fourth child, Psalm, and Kim said during her confessional that she was “freaking out” because she had a baby on the way and she had law school. The 38-year-old said that health issues can really scare you when you start to think about how much they can change your life.

Khloe Kardashian was by her sister’s side at the doctor’s office when he told her that the worst-case scenario is that the pain is the start of a systemic process, rheumatoid arthritis. However, he wouldn’t know for sure until he saw the results of her blood work.

“You really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen,” said Kim. “So, for the next few days, it’s gonna be really like hell living, wondering what I have, what’s going on, and how to fix this.”

Later in the episode, the doctor called to share the results, and what he had to say devastated Kim. He told her that that her antibodies tested positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, however, it is possible to get false positives in initial screenings.

The doctor decided to order ultrasound scans on Kim’s hands and joints to get more information about what she is truly facing, however they did not reveal his diagnosis during the premiere.

Kim Kardashian live-tweeted during the episode, telling fans that thinking about the pain in her hands and what it could be is really scary, and she was anxious to just figure out what was wrong.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack your body, and both Selena Gomez and Toni Braxton have faced challenges from the disease.
