Claudia Winkleman: Strictly host makes cheeky revelation about love life before husband

Claudia Winkleman, 47, married producer Kris Thykier, also 47, back in 2000 and the couple are parents to three children. In her latest column for The Times Luxx magazine, the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 presenter gave an insight into her personal life as she likened finding the perfect clutch bag to finding The One. “It’s like when you think back to the first kiss with your first true love,” she said. Joking about flings she had prior to meeting her husband, she continued cheekily: “Sure, you’d snogged Nigel in the Swiss Cottage Odeon stairwell (or this might just be me) and had a fiddle with Rupert at a Gatecrasher ball.

“But when he, you know, the one, took your head into his hands and placed his mouth on yours, fireworks went off, your knees buckled, you breathed slightly differently and you didn’t quite know why you’d kissed anyone before,” Claudia explained romantically.

“You called your parents afterwards and said, ‘I’m going to marry him,’ then immediately bought Agent Provocateur underwear that was indeed scratchy, but somehow just right.”

The Strictly favourite lightheartedly linked the moment she knew Kris was The One with coming across her ideal bag: the Bottega Veneta pouch.

“Sometimes something feels so right, so perfect, so knock-it-out-the-park, bang-on-the-money correct that you don’t know quite what you were doing beforehand,” she said.

During a recent interview on BBC Radio 2, Claudia revealed she and Kris rarely argue.

“My husband’s very laid-back,” she said, giving an insight into their marriage.

“I can’t make him have a row. I’ve been with him for 22 years.

“I’m like, ‘Come on!’” she quipped. “Even if it’s about mustard!”

Claudia and Kris tied the knot at a secret wedding ceremony 19 years ago, with just close friends and family in attendance.

They are now parents to Jake, 16, Matilda, 13, and Arthur, eight.

Kris is a famous film producer known for movies including Woman in Gold and Kick-A**.

Elsewhere, Claudia is back on screens with Tess Daly, 50, presenting the new series of the BBC’s much-loved Strictly Come Dancing.

The duo hosted the launch show on Saturday night, with the celebrities taking to the dance floor for the first time to show off their rudimentary skills in their debut group dance.

Claudia and Tess were also there to guide the nervous contestants through the process of finding out who their professional partners were.

The former has co-hosted the show since replacing Sir Bruce Forsyth back in 2014.

The Strictly Come Dancing 2019 live shows kick off Saturday September 21 on BBC One.
