Android update: Google could release Android 10 for your smartphone tomorrow

Android 10 was formally unveiled at Google’s I/O developer conference back in May – the new software comes with a deluge of enhanced functionality for fans to get excited about.

First and foremost, Android 10 finally introduces a dark theme for the operating system.

While some third-party vendors like Huawei and Samsung have already released such modes for their respective Android skins, Android 10 will mark the first time a dark theme is natively embedded within the platform.

Not only should a dark mode make viewing content easier on user eyes, but it should also extend device battery life, too.

By far one of Android 10’s most noticeable alterations comes from its new gestures that are used to navigate the operating system.

Google’s latest software gets rid of the back button – performing such a function is now achieved by swiping inward from either the left or right-hand side of a mobile’s screen.

Finally, Android 10 also improves notifications, increases device security and adds a number of nifty new features such as Live Caption.

Google had initially been expected to release Android 10 in August – the same month in which the last three versions of Android have debuted in full.

However, August came and went without word from the Mountain View firm on when a final build of Android 10 would land.

But, it seems the new operating system will release tomorrow – at least according to two reports on the matter.

Phone Arena recently claimed it spoke with “two independent Google Support agents” that confirmed Android 10 would start rolling out tomorrow, September 3.

The outlet posted screenshots of the two conversations in question.

More recently, Canadian network Rogers similarly declared Android 10 would be granted to some mobiles on September 3.

9to5Google noticed such claims were made in a forum post – it was noted “Q OS”, which is presumed to stand for Android 10’s codename Q, would arrive for all Google Pixel devices on the date.

In addition to Pixel handsets, it has also been rumoured the OnePlus 7 could receive Android 10 on its day of release, too.

However, most smartphones from third-party vendors are anticipated to receive Google’s latest and greatest software in the coming months.

In fact, some manufacturers – such as Samsung – are renowned for taking a significant period of time to bring new Android iterations to their handsets.

Following the debut on Android 9 Pie in August last year, Samsung devices had to wait until December and beyond to be granted the fresh operating system.
