Longest-ever world cruise mapped as Viking Sun arrives in London today for 245-day route

Viking Cruises will launch its longest-ever cruise ship route this weekend, as Viking Sun makes its arrival in London. The massive vessel will moor in Greenwich, south east London, for two days before setting sail on Sunday. Viking’s latest endeavour has scooped the title of the “longest ever continuous world cruise itinerary” and will complete a full circumnavigation of the globe. This will see its passengers experience six continents, 59 countries and 113 of the world’s greatest cities and ports, and not return to home turf until May 2 2020.

THE ROUTE

The 55,700 nautical mile voyage will start with calls to some of the British Isles’ best coastal destinations – Dover, Dublin, Liverpool, Holyhead, Belfast and Edinburgh.

Viking Sun will then set sail to some of the world’s most exotic lands, from the sprawling Great Barrier Reef to the lush Amazon rainforest, the famous Pyramids in Egypt to the majestic Norwegian fjords.

It will then pass to the architectural wonder of Machu Picchu to the ancient marvel of Angkor Wat.

Gibraltar and then Porto will be the final two European calling points before the vessel returns home.

Overnight stays in 22 different destinations are all included, so guests have the chance to immerse themselves fully in local cultures.

THE CRUISE SHIP

Viking Sun is one of six ships in Viking Cruises’ ocean fleet.

Open spaces and interiors reflect Viking’s Scandinavian heritage while facilities-wise, the vessel boasts two swimming pools, a fitness centre, two cinemas, a theatre and LivNordic spa.

A total of eight different dining options, with a different menu each day, will feature with destination-inspired food at the heart of the culinary experiences for the around 680,000 meals which will be consumed.

Viking Resident Historians will provide cultural entertainment and guest lecturers will shed light on each destination’s history, art, architecture, music, geopolitics, natural world.

Live musical performances will also cover different genres and time periods.

CRUISE DETAIL

The lead-in price for the Ultimate World Cruise started at £66,990pp, with remaining cabins from £82,990pp.

Guests also have the choice to sail one of two shorter segments of the cruise and can choose between the 127-day Viking World Treasures departing from London to Los Angeles on 31 August 2019 with remaining cabins from £41,390pp, or the 119-day Viking World Wonders itinerary departing from Los Angeles to London on 4 January 2020 with a lead-in price of £32,990pp.
