Nick Kyrgios receives coaching plea from Boris Becker – 'I think that would be cool'

Tennis legend Boris Becker says he would like to be the next coach of the Australian bad-boy Nick Kyrgios.

Kyrgios has been without a coach since 2017 when he split with Frenchman Sebastian Grosjean, who was only working part-time.

Harnessing Kyrgios’ talent would on paper be one of the great jobs.

But the 24-year-old’s antics one the court has put off several big names.

However, Becker, who coached Novak Djokovic to multiple Grand Slams, believes he is the man to get the best out of the man from Canberra.

“I would like to coach him! I think that would be cool – a player who is not coachable,” he told Eurosport.

“As a good coach, you have to face the challenge to find a way to communicate with your player. Whether I have to do this to me is another question.

“But if I just want to live out my passion for tennis, he would be the hottest player.”

“If he has a good day he will beat Federer, he can beat Nadal and beat Djokovic already. He lacks consistency, continuity and discipline.

“But it is up to the trainer to teach him that it is worth it. As a player you can live out by winning, even more than before.”

Kyrgios begins his US Open campaign underway against American Steve Johnson but ahead of that match, he hit back at Martina Navratilova and Jim Courier after the pair said he needed professional help.

“His season has actually been pretty good, because he’s won two big titles in Acapulco and Washington, D.C.,” Courier said.

“But he also continues to struggle emotionally. I think we need to spare a little bit of a thought for him. I’m definitely not condoning this behaviour.

“Does he need some mental health help? Is this something that’s medical? We don’t know the answer to that for sure, but he’s a guy who polarises. He plays some electric tennis, but man, it’s been tough to watch.”

Kyrgios wrote on Twitter: “People that are irrelevant in my personal life are trying to make comments on my personal character.

“Well done.”
