Hobbs And Shaw Soars To A +$100,000,000 Opening In China

According to a report from Variety.com, Universal’s new film starring Jason Statham, Idris Elba, and Dwayne Johnson, has rocked the Chinese box offices following its opening debut of approximately $102,000,000.

Dwayne and Jason’s Fast and Furious spin-off secured an additional $120,000,000 overseas, which brought its international box office amount to around $441 million. Thus far, Hobbs and Shaw is encroaching upon the $600 million mark, with sales close to $558 million.

Moreover, the movie set a number of records in China including the biggest opening weekend ever in August, as well as the second biggest Hollywood debut of the year closely behind Disney’s massive hit, Avengers: Endgame, starring the ensemble cast led by Robert Downey Junior.

Furthermore, it’s the second-biggest launch for the franchise in the Middle Kingdom, a record held by their 2017 movie, The Fate Of The Furious, which went to the top of the box office with a grand total of $184 million.

While this is great news for Dwayne, Jason, and Universal, it’s possible Mr. Tyrese Gibson isn’t too impressed. The actor recently took to his social media to put the movie on blast for its North American debut, insinuating that the movie was a failure.

On Instagram, Tyrese referenced an article which stated the movie didn’t perform as well as the other Fast and Furious movies. Other reports indicated, however, that much of the movie’s success was expected in China and other overseas markets.

Dwayne Johnson, on the other hand, has stayed relatively silent on what he has previously called a “one-sided beef.” During an appearence on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen last year, Mr. Johnson used those terms exactly, stating there has to be two people involved in order to make a feud.

Johnson later went on to make reference to Tyrese’s personal troubles, including his custody battle with his ex-wife, Norma Gibson, as well as his supposed financial squabbles. Gibson’s gripe with the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off movie was that Dwayne was supposedly making the series “all about him,” in addition to postponing the next official Fast movie.
