Meghan and Harry HAD to take private jet: Idris Elba's GMB presenter wife defends royals

In the past week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come under fire for using a private jet to head off on holiday.

Sabrina, who is married to Idris Elba, attended Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan at Windsor Castle last year, leapt to their defence on Good Morning Britain today.

She insisted the royal couple had no choice but to take a private jet as flying First Class put them at risk of fans asking for selfies.

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley claimed the use of Elton John’s private jet could be seen as “hypocrisy”.

Sabrina asked the hosts: “What is the alternative?”

“Well, they could go First Class,” Richard insisted. “In which case they go to the lounge and then get preferential treatment through customs and then you turn left onto the plane.”

But Sabrina wasn’t impressed with Richard’s response as she told him: “If only it were so easy.”

News reader Sean Fletcher added the royals risked being “mobbed” by fans.

Sabrina went on to add she and husband Idris have struggled when flying First Class as officials are also keen to take a photo with them.

“It’s not that bad flying First Class?” Richard remarked.

However, Sabrina continued to defend the royal couple telling the hosts: “No, it can be.

“We’ve had instances where even TSA (Transportation Security Administration) people stop you for photos.”

Sabrina also noted it would be difficult for Meghan and Harry flying with baby Archie.

She added the royals could carbon offset to make up for flying in a private jet for their holiday.

It comes after Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney waded in on the debate yesterday.

Taking to Instagram she hit out at critics of the couple accusing them of racism.

She wrote: “When someone faces unfair criticism, you call it out. When that person is your friend and your family, you call those critics what they truly are. Shame on you, you racist bullies.

“Three years of undeserved hate and abuse. It’s enough.”

Ellen DeGeneres also defended the couple on Twitter earlier this week, writing: “Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation.

“They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
