Ruby Wax accident: 'Severely injured' star gives update after cancelling Edinburgh shows

A statement from Chambers Touring said: “Following a serious accident on holiday Ruby has suffered severe injuries to her back and is unable to perform in Edinburgh.

“Under a doctor’s orders, she is taking time out to recover, but will get the show on the road again as soon as she can.

“Ruby is incredibly sorry that she will not be able to perform the run which she had been so looking forward to,” the statement concluded.

Ruby expressed her apologies, telling fans: “Sorry to everyone who bought tickets and I hope to see you soon. I’ll miss you.”

She went on to say: “I’ve been coming to Edinburgh Fringe with my shows for over 30 years and always had the most amazing time.

“I am hugely disappointed and so sorry to everyone who has bought tickets.

“My injuries are quite serious and I do need to take the time to heal and recover,” she said.

The website said refunds would be available and ticket holders would be contacted.

Following the news of her accident, Ruby’s fans flooded to Twitter to send their best wishes to the comedian.

“So sorry to hear about your accident Ruby,” one wrote. “Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery and hope to see you next time!”

“Get well soon, dearest Ruby,” another said. “I am so sad not to be able to finally see you in person and thank you for saving my mind but your health is SO much more important!”

“It sounds like you had a very scary adventure, please collect many hugs (or whatever gives you a happy, warm and loved feeling),” a third tweeted, while a fourth added: “Get well soon Ruby. Take care and take the time you need to fully recover.

“Don’t rush back too soon.”

The exact nature of Ruby’s accident isn’t known, but it is thought she incurred injuries after falling from a horse.

Earlier in the day, she shared a picture of herself posing alongside a horse on her holiday.

She could be seen puckering up to kiss the horse on the nose whilst dressed in a padded jacket and riding helmet.

Multiple news outlets have reported she was left injured as the result of falling from a horse.
