The Walking Dead star Dango Nguyen dies aged 48 following cancer battle

Dango Nguyen, who was also a firefighter, died on Saturday “after a hard-fought battle with cancer”.

The actor played a guard who worked for The Governor on The Waling Dead and also fought with Rick Grimes in third series back in 2013.

As well as his role in the show, Dango, who went by the stage name Dango Nu Yen, was a sergeant with the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department for almost 20 years.

The Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services announced the news about Dango on their Facebook page.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our former firefighters,” the statement read.

They continued: “He will always be remembered for his physical and mental strength. He was an aggressive and tenacious firefighter and first responder.

“He was also an excellent fire officer.”

It continued: “He carried out his service to our community with a high level of pride in his craft, as well as a competitive spirit that made everyone else that he worked with better too.”

The post concluded: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Michelle, his family, and all of his friends. He touched many lives.

“We will all remember his quick wit, high energy, and unwavering determination. We all aspire to be ‘Dango Strong’.”

His son, Colt, commented on the post: “I love you dad, and all of the firemen he introduced me to. Thank you guys so much for everything.”

Other people aid tribute, saying: “Sooo sorry for your loss sending comforting prayers too family, friends.”

Another commented: “Prayers & hugs for all who knew Dango, he will be missed by all. Many of us have fond memories & will treasure those times. Rest In Peace Dango.”

Dango shared pictures of himself on set on The Walking Dead, in which he played a guard in 2013.

The star uploaded a picture of himself in character and wrote: “I aim to misbehave.”

In another picture, the actor posed with Norman Reedus who played Daryl Dixon in the show.

He captioned a snap of them together: “Getting killed has its perks. Super nice guy and all around good person. #twd #daryldixon @normanreedus.”
