Dan Walker Twitter: 'We're sharing' Breakfast star in debate over BBC TV licence fee

The presenter showed off the new studio on Monday while presenting Match of the Day. Dan, clad in beige jeans and a casual black t-shirt, sat back on a crescent sofa and boasted about the “snazzy new set”. He gave viewers a walkthrough of the green screen technology used which he described as “incredibly snazzy”. The BBC Breakfast presenter teased viewers by holding a green sheet up, making his entire body invisible.

Some Twitter users were not impressed.

One Twitter user was particularly direct in his disapproval of Dan.

He said: “License fee will be going up then!”

Dan snapped back and replied: “Smaller studio and we are sharing it with other shows to keep the costs down.”

It is not the first time Dan’s defending of the BBC has led to a Twitter argument.

Last month, he was lambasted after an interview with the Health Secretary Matt Hancock on BBC Breakfast.

He thanked Mr Hancock for his time as Health Secretary and said: “It will be good to get you back when you have those social care plans.”

This led to one Twitter user attacking Dan over his programme’s alleged “propaganda for the current Government”.

The user said: “Your programme and channel are becoming more and more a propaganda channel for the current government.

“Nearly ten years of Tory cuts to all areas of its governance this country is in dire straights.”

Despite the attack, Dan quickly defended BBC Breakfast while also insisting that the programme had asked pressing questions.

Dan replied to the fan: “Just not true David.

“Asked him where the money came from.

“Asked him about all the funding pledges made by the Prime Minister and how it added up.

“Told him £1.8billion was way short of the £6billion needed & asked him about the crisis in social care!”
