Svetlana Kuznetsova moved into the main draw of the U.S. Open on Monday after Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia withdrew due to an injured left foot, the U.S. Tennis Association announced.
Kuznetsova won the U.S. Open in 2004 when she defeated fellow Russian Elena Dementieva in the women’s singles final.
Kuznetsova, 34, also won the 2009 French Open, beating countrywoman Dinara Safina for the championship. She was a French Open finalist in 2006 and a U.S. Open finalist in 2007, losing to Belgium’s Justine Henin each time.
On the men’s side, Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas was added to the U.S. Open field after American Mackenzie McDonald pulled out due to a hamstring injury.
