James Cracknell wife: How Beverley revealed she 'missed' her husband after brain injury

James and Beverley wed back in 2002 and were married for almost 17 years before announcing their decision to separate. The couple has three children together Croyde, 14, Kili, 10, and Trixie, eight. In a statement released back in March, they said: “We can confirm that sadly we separated last year.”

“Together, we remain committed to our amazing children, they are our absolute priority and wish people to be kind and mindful of this.”

Their lives were changed forever in 2010 after James was hit by the wing mirror on a lorry while doing a bike ride across America.

The accident resulted in life-changing injuries and caused significant brain damage.

“I missed him,” she wrote, going on to say: “To get him as well as he could be, I knew I was going to have to be harsh on him, like dealing with a child.”

The pair had also vowed to keep their marriage alive for the sake of their children.

They admitted in an interview in 2012 that a doctor told them that 75 percent of people with brain injuries ended in divorce.

“We’ll do everything not to become part of that number,” said at the time.

Even last year, Beverley said: “On the whole it’s better for us to stay together although it is incredibly difficult.”

James will be appearing in Strictly Come Dancing 2019 later this year after he was confirmed as one of the stars in the line-up.

He said of joining the show: “I’m really looking forward to being a part of Strictly this year.

“Having spent so many years mucking around in a rowing boat with big men in tight lycra, it’s time I learned a new skill.

James added to the BBC: “I need to apologise to my kids in advance for the embarrassment.”

He will be joining the likes of Anneka Rice, Alex Scott, David James and Michelle Visage as they all compete for the Glitterball Trophy.

The Strictly Come Dancing line-up will be partnered up with the professionals during the launch show in September.
