Pixel 3 is typically first to receive new Android monthly security patches because the phone is made by Google, the owner of the mobile operating system.
However, this month such a tradition was broken when OnePlus started rolling out the August 2019 security update for its 7 Pro handset before Google did so for its Pixel series.
OnePlus’ update started rolling out on July 31 and also contained a number of optimisations for its most premium Android flagship.
These included improvements to the phone’s adaptive brightness feature and the sensitivity of a screen touch while gaming.
While the device had been first to receive the security patch, Google has now started rolling it out for its Pixel devices.

In a post on its Android Security Bulletin, Google declared the new patch should provide remedies for a number of vulnerabilities deemed to be “critical” and “high” in severity.
The most notable of which was detailed by the American tech giant to allow a “remote attacker” to execute arbitrary code on a targeted device.
Although Google declared it had not received any reports of the vulnerabilities mentioned being exploited, it is recommended users download this vital update as soon as possible.
The Mountain View firm also declared its Pixel series will also benefit from a couple of functional improvements thanks to the upgrade.
Both of these were said to improve the Wi-Fi connectivity of the Android lineup.
The new Android security patch is rolling out to Pixel owners right now.
If your Pixel device has not already issued a notification alerting you to the new patch, you can see if it is available manually by heading into your system settings.
To do this, open the Settings app and head to System > Advanced > System Update.
