A gunman killed nine and injured at least 16 in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, after 22 died in a separate shooting in El Paso, Texas. Donald Trump condemned the two mass shootings, saying hate has no place in America. During a Sky News debate on the sale of firearms in the US, journalist Scottie Nell Hughes began: “Here’s the thing, yes I agree there is definitely hatred and evil if you look at what happened in Texas.
“But sitting there blaming President Trump and his administration when talking about Texas means that you’re completely missing the Ohio shooter.
“You can do that but you look at Ohio, he was a satanist, he obviously did have mental issues, there is a long list of issues that should’ve said he had a hatred and it was going to be encouraged.
“Here’s the deal, evil is going to do evil, regardless of“.
Lawyer Shola Mos-Shogbamimu interrupted before the Sky host intervened saying: “Hold on Shola, Scottie make your final point there, go on.”

Ms Nell Hughes continued: “Final point is that this is being utilised by all in power right now for their own political gain and unfortunately it’s at the loss of those families who continue to ahem to bury their own.
“And until both parties, and even if it means for once taking the cameras off them, both parties come together and say ‘we need to put in real expectations in the United States, they are going to identify these shooters and their motivations and their environment’. Before that happens, we’re going to continue to, unfortunately, see these headlines in our news Kay.”
Ms Mos-Shogbamimu hit back: “I would say this, I think it’s important to consider all of the factors, from rhetoric, language and the way we excuse and enable this kind of behaviour in our societies.
“Be it at the top level of society all the way to the bottom, I think it’s important to stand up against language such as this. Because you cannot ignore that it makes it possible. If these people, as you say, are mentally ill, why would you then feed them with this kind of language? Which is what Trump and all people, aside from Trump, do. I’m saying that we as a society must take responsibility. Both sides do not use hateful language, Trump does.”
The pair then began shouting over each other with Ms Mos-Shogbamimum cursing live on air, as she quoted: “Trump says ’s******e countries’, Trump is the one using this language.”
Ms Burley then cut off the debate, saying: “Love your passion ladies, out of time, thanks for joining us. Amazing, as always.” She then turned towards the camera as she concluded: “Thank you very much indeed, thank you. Phew!”
The first attack took place on Saturday in a shopping centre in El Paso, Texas, after a 21-year-old opened fire – killing 22. Later, a second attack took place in Dayton, Ohio, where a shooter killed nine people in the city on Sunday morning.
Many celebrities have spoken out about gun control in the wake of the attacks. Singer Lizzo said it was a “close call” for her family after the shooting in Ohio.

She tweeted: “Just got off the phone w/ fam in Dayton… it was a close call for them but that’s not the case for 9 other families between this & the terrorist attack in El Paso & recent other shootings. I feel completely helpless.. make noise & bring awareness.. vote.. don’t normalise this.”
Actress Julianne Moore shared a photograph of women hugging each other outside the Texas shopping centre and wrote: “TAKE ACTION: The House of Representatives passed a bill to require background checks on all gun sales. Now, the Senate must act.
“In honour of El Paso, text CHECKS to 644-33 to be connected with your Senators and tell them to act on background checks.”
During a speech from Washington on Monday, President Trump called for capital punishment to be delivered “quickly and decisively” and without “years of delay” for those who commit mass murders and hate crimes.
The US President said: “We must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms. And if they do those firearms can be taken through rapid due process. That I why I have called for Red Flag laws – also known as extreme risk protection orders.
“Today I am also directing the Department for Justice to propose legislation ensuring those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty, and this capital punishment is delivered quickly, decisively and without years of needless delay. These are just a few of the areas of cooperation that we can pursue.”
He added: “I am open and ready to listen to discuss all ideas that will actually work and make a very big difference. Republicans and Democrats have proven we can join together in a bipartisan fashion to address this plague.”
