Is Gavin Rossdale Blocking Blake Shelton From Marrying Gwen Stefani?

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale finalized their divorce four years ago, but a new report claims that Stefani has petitioned the Vatican to annul the marriage in the Catholic church and Rossdale isn’t on board with the idea. Is Rossdale trying to prevent Stefani from marrying Blake Shelton?

Stefani and Rossdale were married for 13 years before their marriage came to an end due to his infidelity. But even though they are legally divorced, the marriage is permanent in the eyes of the Catholic church. This means that Stefani can’t marry Shelton in the Catholic Church because they do not allow remarriage if the other spouse is still alive.

The only way around this is to petition the church for an annulment, which is a declaration that the marriage wasn’t valid. But, Rossdale “refuses to say their marriage never existed,” says an insider.

According to Radar Online, when Stefani applied for the annulment the church contacted Rossdale, and he lost it when they explained to him what that would mean. Not only would the annulment declare the marriage invalid, but it would also deem their three sons – Kingston, 13, Zuma, 10, and Apollo, 5 – illegitimate.

“Gavin isn’t going to pretend he wasn’t married just because it makes Gwen’s life easier,” said the insider. “He thinks it’s wrong and stupid. He isn’t going to let Gwen sweep their marriage under the rug. This is turning into a disaster because the kids are caught in the middle of this ongoing war.”

Shelton isn’t Catholic, so getting married in the church isn’t a priority for him. But Stefani is deeply religious and marrying the country superstar in the Catholic church is important to her.

The 43-year-old coach on The Voice has been hinting lately that marriage is on his mind. He talked about a proposal during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when the talk show host gifted him with a giant clock to remind him that the “clock is ticking.” And, he recently told Entertainment Tonight that their relationship keeps getting stronger and they’ve “never been doing better.”

He also admitted that when the time comes for him and Stefani to announce their engagement, the news won’t break “in any of the grocery store trash magazines.”
