Brexit OPPORTUNITY: UK to bring in migrants with top jobs and equip country for future

Mr Hague has said that leaving the EU will mean Britain prepares for the future by selecting who enters and leaves the country and the Government should look to Australia for guidance on immigration. Border control was one of the reasons millions voted to leave the EU in the 2016 referendum and Mr Hague has said we can still “open our arms to the most talented people on earth”.

Former Foreign Secretary William Hague wrote in The Daily Telegraph: “It is important to recognise that there is one undoubted and unambiguous advantage of it: that the UK will be able to determine its own attitude towards immigration.

“The Government will, provided it runs an efficient system of border checks, decide who comes to this country, why they are allowed in, and when they have to leave.”

He said the immigration system currently mandated by the EU could be replaced by “time-limited visas for casual or unskilled workers”.

Mr Hague urged the new Prime Minister to “make the positive case for a migration system that is closed to abuse but open to hard work and ability”.

He added Brexit will mean that the UK does not have to restrict the number of skilled workers from outside the EU to make up for the inability to control European migration.

The UK can then ain to attract the most talented people in the world to help Britain’s push to be at the forefront of breakthroughs in fields including renewable energy and digital communication.

Mr Hague has suggested that the Government could not count students in the immigration numbers in a bid to attract as many talented students as possible.

He also said Boris Johnson could give special visas to those in science and technical subjects who want to work in the UK after their studies.

Under such a system, applicants for visas would need to score a certain number of points to live and work in the UK.

Home Secretary, Priti Patel, will have the job of changing the country’s immigration system and binging back “control” over migrants.

This comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he will take the country out of the bloc by Halloween, with or without a deal.
