Season five of Outlander won’t be airing until 2020 but fans have gone into overdrive trying to theorise what will happen next in the show. The new series is going to be based on the fifth and sixth Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. The new series will be an amalgam of the two books rather than a straight adaptation of one novel as has been the case previously.
Will Brianna and Roger return to the future?

Outlander fans are going to have to wait and see how season six pans out and how much is taken from the two novels.
Although the setting will be the oncoming American Civil War, the real action will be between the characters and the demons they must face.
The books see some huge events with Brianna Fraser (played by Sophie Skelton) at the centre as she continues to deal with the fallout of her rape.

As fans will remember from season four, Brianna confronted Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speelers) as he languished in prison.
She told him she’d forgiven him as well as revealing she was pregnant, hinting the child could be his.
The season ended with Bonnet managing to escape from prison and running off into the night, leaving open the possibility that he could return at some later date.
WILL STEPHEN BONNET RETURN?
If the books are anything to go by, season five will see Bonnet come back to find out more about the child, whom he believes is his.
Depending on the direction the producers and writers want to take, Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) and Brianna could travel back to the future in an effort to protect their child.
The pair have been living in the 18th Century for a few years but with the danger of Bonnet and the threat to their child, it would make sense to travel back through the stones.
WHY HAS OUTLANDER SEASON 5 BEEN DELAYED?
There is a set of standing stones in the US relatively close to Fraser’s Ridge which Roger previously contemplated using to travel back to the future.
However, the pair will need to get some gemstones to help them travel back to the present.
Their journey back to the future also makes sense given the coming conflict that could put them in grave danger should they stay.
There could be a further twist, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) could force his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to go through time with Brianna and Roger.
Whether Claire will again listen to him is another matter – she did this at the end of season two and it nearly broke her.
Claire didn’t reunite with Jamie until 20 years later and it’s unlikely that she will let war stop her this time.
Sadly, there are many directions the writers could decide two take the story with fans in for a wait.
