Donald Trump demands 'quick' capital punishment as he proposes shock new law

Donald Trump has called for capital punishment to be delivered “quickly and decisively” and without “years of delay” for those who commit mass murders and hate crimes. It comes after the two horrific mass shootings just hours apart in El Pason, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. Speaking in Washington, the US President said: “We must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms. And if they do those firearms can be taken through rapid due process.

“That I why I have called for Red Flag laws – also known as extreme risk protection orders.

“Today I am also directing the Department for Justice to propose legislation ensuring those who commit hate crimes and mass murders face the death penalty, and this capital punishment is delivered quickly, decisively and without years of needless delay.

“These are just a few of the areas of cooperation that we can pursue.”

He added: “I am open and ready to listen to discuss all ideas that will actually work and make a very big difference.

“Republicans and Democrats have proven we can join together in a bipartisan fashion to address this plague.”

Mr Trump finished his speech by saying: “Our future is in our control. America will rise to the challenge.

“We will always have and we always will win. The choice is ours, and ours alone – it is not up to mentally ill monsters, it is up to us.

“That we are able to pass great legislation after all of these years – we will ensure those who were attacked will not have died in vain.

He wrote: “We cannot let those killed in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, die in vain.

“Likewise for those so seriously wounded. We can never forget them, and those many who came before them.

“Republicans and Democrats must come together and get strong background checks, perhaps marrying this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform.

“We must have something good, if not GREAT, come out of these two tragic events!”
