Dayton shooting: Gunman leaves ‘multiple fatalities’ in Ohio – ‘active shooter' on run

A shooting early this morning in Dayton is believed to have left “multiple fatalities”, according to local media. Dayton Police Department have urged people to avoid the Oregon district of the city. They said on Twitter: “We are actively investigating an active shooter incident in the #OregonDistrict. Please avoid the area. More information to come.”

The police later posted: “If you witnessed the incident in the #OregonDistrict or have any information on the incident that would aid in the investigation, please call 937-225-6217.”

Local TV station WHIOTV7 is reporting seven fatalities, as indicated by a police scanner. They later said other sources had reported 10 fatalities.

Witnesses said the gunman was killed at the scene. However police are believed to be concerned about the possibility of a second gunman.

One witness said on Facebook: “Sad people are not right. I’m safe. Happened right in front of the patio where I was sitting in front of Neds.

“He tried to go into the bar but did not make it through the door. Someone took the gun from him and he got shot and is dead.

“There are at least eight people dead right by the picnic table where I was on the street. A bunch of people taken to the hospital. I don’t know how many. This place is a disaster.”

The attack has come just hours after at least 20 people died in a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas.

This is a breaking story, more to follow…
