That’s what a highly praised new fan theory argues. Reddit user Ennovative argues: “What if Voldemort wasn’t Tom Riddle, but a combination of Tom Riddle and Salazar Slytherin? Salazar sought immortality.”
They continued: “In fact, Salazar’s last confirmed act alive was concealing a Basilisk inside the Chamber of Secrets.
“What if, he concealed his soul within the Basilisk to prolong his life?
“The only thing he had to do then, was wait for a parseltongue, and lure him into the chamber. Tom Riddle was a talented young wizard, not unlike Harry himself.”
