Fortnite season 10: Leaked trailer may reveal aftermath of Loot Lake orb explosion – CNET

fortnite season 10 teaser

Epic releases a teaser for Fortnite season 10, but the entire trailer is out for all to see. Whoops.

Epic Games

Fortnite season 10 will start Thursday, and Epic Games released a teaser for the new season on Wednesday. But in Brazil, the entire trailer was made available for a couple of minutes. The leaked trailer tweeted by a data miner shows that the theme for Fortnite season 10 will be time, though it’s unclear what will change on the island. Not long after the leak, Epic uploaded the entire season trailer to Twitter.

After The Final Showdown between the giant robot and Polar Peak monsters, a giant orb began to pulsate in Loot Lake. The trailer shows the orb exploding and tossing Jonesy, the default character used by Epic in various trailers, into an alternative dimension. There he sees various objects from previous Fortnite seasons such as the rocket from the rocket launch event, a giant Durrr Burger head and various holiday-themed items from previous events. It ends with Jonesy back on the island, with Dusty Depot behind him and what appears to be the meteor that destroyed the location back in season 3. The leaked trailer ends with “time is up” in Portuguese.

An hour after Epic released the teaser video, the company took to Twitter again and released the full trailer. It’s unclear whether this was the company’s plan all along or if it was a response to the leaked trailer. One change in the official English trailer is the tagline at the end that says “Time is up.”

Fortnite players on Reddit and Twitter dissected the leaked trailer frame-by-frame to figure out what’s going on. In particular, the last few seconds of Jonesy plummeting to the island appears to show that the volcano is still around, which means the island hasn’t completely reverted to season 3 prior to the meteor destroying Dusty Depot. The Factory, another location destroyed in the third season, also appears to have returned. Players also noted in the video were several skins likely to be available via the season Battle Pass.

It was during the Fortnite World Cup Sunday when Epic released the first teaser for season 10. The one single image shown appeared to signal the return of Dusty Depot. Then on Monday, the developer published another image that raised more questions including the possible return of The Visitor. A teaser on Tuesday showed new skins including what appears to be a variation of the Drift outfit from season 5.

Is Drift returning?

Drift was the mascot for Fortnite season 5. There was a base version of the outfit, but players can unlock the full outfit via the Battle Pass. The fully unlocked skin included a kitsune mask, which resembles one of the skins in the teaser image from Epic on Tuesday. The teaser image version does appear to be a black mask meaning this could be a variant of the Drift outfit or another character altogether.

Drift, like The Visitor, is also a time traveler that made its way to the island thanks to the rifts created from the rocket launch ending Fortnite season 4.

Who is The Visitor?

Monday’s season 10 teaser image from Epic showed what appeared to be a robot of some sort, but not the same robot from The Final Showdown. However, it’s not the mech that players are interested in. Instead, it’s the symbol on the left causing the game’s fanbase to get hyped. Many noticed it’s the same tattoo on the arm of The Visitor, a secret outfit from Fortnite season 4.

In Fortnite season 4, the season storyline revolved around the aftermath of the meteor that destroyed Dusty Depot. Inside the meteorite was The Visitor, who is assumed to be a time traveler. He was responsible for the rocket launch that ended season 4, which caused a series of time abnormalities and created a crack in the sky.

Aside from the one symbol, there’re no theories about the mech and the symbol on the right.

What is Dusty Depot?

One of the original locations on the island, Dusty Depot, was destroyed at the end of season 3 when a meteor slammed into it as part of a season-ending event. It was then renamed to Dusty Divot and was known for having a research lab in the crater created by the meteor’s impact.

The image teaser from Epic shows what appears to be the Fortnite season 10 logo with a giant “X” and three hangars, which were the trademarks of Dusty Depot. The company tweeted Sunday the same picture with the words “Think Back.”

So far, Epic has kept a tight lid on what’s coming in Fortnite season 10. There’s a giant orb in Loot Lake, called the Singularity, that’s pulsating with power and changes each day.

Players will have to wait until Aug. 1 to see how the island will change for the next season.

Epic didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
