Windows 10 update: Microsoft could change this iconic feature and some fans aren’t happy

Windows 10 released back in 2015 and has changed dramatically during its period of availability.

That is because Microsoft has consistently granted the software new, substantial, updates that have introduced a swathe of new features and improvements for fans.

The latest of which released back in May and was aptly titled the May 2019 Update.

Microsoft’s newest software version introduces a new light theme for fans, a bevy of new applications and allows users to delete more pre-installed programmes.

Although the May 2019 Update only recently launched, Microsoft is already hard at work on its second hefty upgrade for Windows 10 this year and beyond.

In fact, the firm has already released preview builds of its first substantial update of 2020 to those that are part of its Insider programme.

One feature that has remained a staple of Microsoft’s Windows operating system is its Start menu that allows users to quickly navigate to different applications.

The tool has undergone huge changes in recent years and now touts a layout featuring the American tech giant’s Live Tiles that show up-to-date information about installed programmes.

While Microsoft’s Start menu is undeniably useful, not all fans enjoy its current aesthetic.

However, it seems the Redmond-based company is experimenting with new versions of its Start menu that could arrive in an update down the line.

The Verge reported Microsoft recently released a new build of Windows 10 dubbed 18947 to some Insiders.

It was noted the version was originally meant to be for the tech powerhouse’s internal Xbox development team but was available to testers using 32-bit hardware.

The build, that has since been pulled, was shown to feature a new Start menu without any Live Tiles – the tool looked to be simplified from its current form.

The design exhibited is similar to what is expected to launch on Windows Lite, a stripped back version of the operating system engineered to compete with Google’s popular ChromeOS.

While it is unclear if the new Start menu design shown is intended for a future version of Windows 10, a number of Microsoft fans took to Twitter and expressed their distaste for it.

One said: “Ok don’t tell me this is coming to regular Windows 10.”

Another wrote: “What is this abomination?”

A third declared: “This start sucks completely, please don’t do this Microsoft.”

With that said, a number of others insisted the aesthetic was more pleasing than what is currently offered.

A Microsoft fan said: “Better than silly tile nonsense.”

A second remarked: “I instantly love it!”
