Galaxy Watch rival: Fans may have got their best look yet at Samsung’s new wearable

Galaxy Watch launched alongside the Galaxy Note 9 last year and it seems Samsung could similarly debut a new wearable with the Note 10, too.

Samsung has already pencilled in an Unpacked event for August 7 that is anticipated to reveal its new Note 10 flagship in full but a swathe of rumours and leaks have suggested the firm could also unwrap a new product called the Galaxy Watch Active 2 during the same showcase.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 will be positioned as “halfway between the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active”, according to sources who recently spoke with Wareable.

The outlet recently claimed the hardware will come in three models: a Bluetooth-only variant, an LTE flavour and one featuring Under Armour branding.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 has been tipped to come in 40 millimetre and 44 millimetre case sizes – the same as the Apple Watch Series 4.

It seems as though Samsung could also debut a number of new health-related features in the new Watch Active, too.

Wareable declared the device will be capable of performing an electrocardiogram (ECG) and SamMobile has speculated it may also be able to detect falls, too.

The former was said to still awaiting FDA approval and therefore may not arrive until “”some time in the first half of 2020”, according to a Wareable source.

In addition to a detailed feature set, alleged images of the Watch Active 2 have also been outed.

Reliable tipster Evan Blass has posted two supposed photos of the device on Twitter that appear to be prematurely leaked marketing material.

The supposed Galaxy Watch Active 2 was shown looking incredibly similar to its predecessor but featured different shaped buttons on its side.

Samsung’s signature rotating bezel was not exhibited but it has been rumoured the new wearable may allow similar functionality to be recreated with gestures around the device’s screen border.

And now it seems further images of the device have surfaced that appear to have corroborated prior leaks.

Droid Life recently noticed the device was pictured in new documents from the US’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that showed its screen turned on.

The hardware’s app menu was exhibited in one of the three new images.

The FCC labelled the product as a “smart wearable” – the words “Samsung Galaxy Watch” could be seen on a render of the device’s rear.

The new images of the alleged Galaxy Watch Active 2 seemingly provide a better representation of the device’s screen size and appear to confirm it will run Samsung’s Tizen operating system and not Google’s Wear OS.

Samsung’s forthcoming hardware event is less than two weeks away – Express.co.uk will be covering proceedings live.
