Barcelona receive Neymar demand that complicates PSG transfer deal

Barcelona are hoping to sign Neymar this summer, despite the controversial manner of the 27-year-old’s move to PSG in the summer of 2017.

The Brazil international has grown disillusioned with life in Paris and has made it clear that he wants to return to the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are open to having Neymar back on board, though club president Josep Maria Bartoemeu recently tried to play down talk of a transfer.

“We never speak about a player at another club as a matter of respect,” he said when asked about the speculation.

“We also don’t want other clubs to speak about our players.”

And Spanish newspaper Marca claim Neymar has issued a demand to Barcelona at a time where his future is uncertain.

It is claimed the PSG star is still seeking a loyalty payment from the Catalan club – something that has caused issues between all parties ever since his arrival.

He wants the full £40million from his old club which was promised to him when he renewed his contract in 2016.

Barcelona have so far only paid £18m.

Neymar was due to get a second instalment on July 31, 2017. However, that payment never arrived as Barcelona knew about his intentions to leave.

Two days later, he did just that.

And Barcelona are refusing to budge, with the Catalan giants arguing that the £18m they paid should be RETURNED as it was linked to him remaining at the club for the entirety of his contract.

With that case still refusing to go away, Neymar’s move to Barcelona is hanging by a thread.

And only time will tell as to whether it comes between him moving back to La Liga this summer.

Barcelona legend Rivaldo, meanwhile, believes his compatriot has the potential to be a huge hit should he head back to Catalonia.

“If he comes here of course there will be times when he is criticised by some fans,” he said.

“But in the games, the training sessions, Neymar will still be the same Neymar, and it could be something special for Barcelona.

“He should say sorry. Officially, yes. Say sorry, say he was wrong, say that this is his home, that he is going to be the difference.

“I think that all the fans… many will understand, they’ll see him on the pitch in the league, the Champions League, doing things well, and the fans will forgive him easily.

“If it’s like it was when he was here playing football before together with Messi and Suarez, it was great for the club.

“If they win the Champions League, I don’t think it will be a problem for the fans.”
