Mercury Retrograde 2019 dates and times: When is Mercury in Retrograde?

The second Mercury Retrograde of the year began on Sunday, July 7 and will come to an end on August 2. Mercury is known to be the astrological ruler of communication. And when Mercury goes rogue, the planet reportedly causes our lives to get a little chaotic. Areas in which people generally prosper may suddenly appear to to be clouded with alarming difficulty.

Retrograde period finds the planet Mercury appearing to be travelling backward from our planet’s perspective.

However Mercury is in fact just continuing on its trajectory of its 88-day orbit around the Sun.

Astrology believers are at this time more inclined to take things out of context and misunderstand communication.

Others meanwhile supposedly experience trouble conveying ideas and concepts clearly during Retrograde season.

Communication can take many forms, and all are thought to face obstacles during Mercury Retrograde.

While every Mercury Retrograde is believed to bring its own complications to navigate, this month’s July’s event is feared to be particularly powerful.

This is primarily because Mercury Retrograde started ahead of Leo’s astrological chart before it will eventually return to Cancer for the remainder of Retrograde season.

Astrologer Lisa Stardust explained to Newsweek believers can expect to encounter uncomfortable truths during July’s Mercury Retrograde.

She said: “People will be re-evaluating facts they have heard and will really have to decipher if they’re sure of the truthfulness or not.

“People will really begin to see the truth and question their actions from the past as well as the actions and motives of others.

“It may cause a real contentions time in people’s lives by bringing a lot of self-reflection on our actions and the actions of others. It’s just a summer of reflection.”

Some believers have claimed to already experienced difficulties in the weeks preceding the Retrograde period.

Last week’s total solar eclipse supposedly exacerbated the pervasive sense of cosmic confusion.

Much of the mess of early Mercury Retrograde is considered to relate to Fire sign Leo’s influence.

Ms Stardust explained: ”Leos say things without speaking and they’re very nonchalant about the truthfulness of their pride.

“That is how they go about life, and when it’s retrograde, people have a tendency to say things that are very cocky, things they don’t need to say or things that come off arrogant.”

As Mercury retrograde transitions back into Cancer, people will tend to reflect on their communication problems from the earlier part of the retrograde.

A brief history of Mercury Retrograde:

Mercury Retrograde was being written about in astrology circles dating back to the mid-18th century.

Mercury Retrograde was noted in British agricultural almanacs of the time, which farmers would read to syncronise their planting schedules to the patterns of the stars.

Interest in astrology speed during the spiritualism craze of the Victorian era, with belief stars could influence us booming.

19th-century publications such as The Astrologer’s Magazine and The Science of the Stars were among the first to connect Mercury Retrograde with heavy rainfall.

Characterisations of Mercury Retrograde as an “ill omen”began appearing in articles during that period, but its association with outright disaster was not as prevalent as it is now.

By the 1970s, horoscopes were a newspaper mainstay and Mercury retrograde was a recurring theme.
