Stranger Things season 4 spoilers: The Duffer Brothers hint at truth behind horrific death

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season three.

Stranger Things did the unimaginable in season three and killed off a huge character.

After various threats and endless amounts of terror, Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) was vaporised by a huge, malfunctioning, Upside Down-opening machine.

However the circumstances surrounding the death are a little suspect, as viewers didn’t see any of the gory details.

What’s more, in a post-credit scene set in Russia, two officers mentioned “The American” whilst choosing a man to feed to the newly discovered Demogorgon.

These two key pieces of information have convinced viewers that the Hawkins police chief isn’t actually dead – and now Matt and Ross Duffer have finally spoken out about the controversy.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Matt said: “You definitely should not assume anything.

“The line that Russian guard said is purposely intended to spark debate. We need people to ask the very questions that you’re asking.”

Ross Duffer chimed in to add: “Assuming there’s a season four, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell.

“And then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon, that is a tease.”

He even went on to hint: “We try to tee up some season 4.”

While it certainly isn’t definitive proof Hopper is either alive or dead, surely the creators would make it clear if he was actually gone for good?

Recently Eleven star Millie Bobby Brown spoke out about the possibility of a season four, and what events may take place.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly she explained: “The Duffer Brothers are like my older brothers.

“So I call them all the time, and I definitely try to press them on little clues and hints.

“I know things here and there, but nothing deep or something I could tell you about.”

While the actor was eager to keep the details under wraps, she did go on to talk about how big its impact would be.

Millie continued: “If there was a season four we would be really excited.

“But right now, we have to see how season three goes and how fans react to it.”

Stranger Things season three is available on Netflix now.
