What is the Midsommar release date?

In both the UK and USA, Midsommar is out in cinemas Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

Midsommar pre-screened at the Alamo Drafthouse in New York City, on June 18, 2019.

The movie was initially planned to be a straightforward slasher movie which takes place amongst Swedish cultists.

Though the film takes place in Sweden, it was filmed in Budapest, Hungary.

What is the plot of Midsommar?

The plot synopsis reads: “Christian and Dani, a young American couple, are having trouble with their relationship.

“After Dani suffers from a severe personal tragedy, the couple decides to go on a vacation to rural Sweden with their friends, Mark and Josh, to visit a small village that is hosting a festival held once every 90 years.

“Unbeknownst to them, the festivities include violent and disturbing rituals, and the locals insist that they join in.

“What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”

Who stars in Midsommar?

Florence Pugh stars as the protagonist, Dani, who is portrayed in the trailer as a clingy girlfriend.

Her boyfriend Christian is played by Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Glassland).

Their friend Josh is played by William Jackson Harper of The Good Place fame.

Mark is portrayed by Will Poulter of The Maze Runner series.

Other actors include Vilhelm Blomgren as Pelle, Archie Madekwe as Simon, Ellora Torchia as Connie.

IndieWire’s Eric Kohn called the movie a “perverse breakup movie,” adding: “Aster doesn’t always sink the biggest surprises, but he excels at twisting the knife.”
