Greg Rusedski backs Rafael Nadal in complaint over Roger Federer seeding

World No 2 Nadal will be the third seed at Wimbledon next week, meaning he could have to beat both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to win the title.

Eight-time champion Federer leapfrogged Nadal up to second seed because of a unique formula which takes into consideration grass achievements over the last two years.

Nadal claimed the All England Club’s system “lacks respect” of his world ranking.

And Rusedski agrees that the Spaniard should feel annoyed that he will have to navigate through a trickier field if he is to end a nine-year Wimbledon drought.

“Nadal should be seeded No 2 at Wimbledon this year,” Rusedski tweeted.

“You cannot have surface rankings. If we did Federer would be No 1 on grass, Djokovic No 1 hard, Nadal No 1 clay.

“Every surface is medium slow these days with the ball combination. You earn your ranking thru our the year!

“Because Nadal will have to play Federer and Djokovic in semi and finals for sure now if they get to that stage. Other way there is a possibility of not having to.”

Nadal blasted Wimbledon for dropping him from second to third.

“They do not respect the status that some players have earned throughout the season,” Nadal told Movistar.

“It’s the same as always, Wimbledon is the only tournament of the year that does what they think in that sense, it’s their criteria. Whatever it is, whether I’m number two or number three I’ll have to play at my best.

“Obviously it is better to be number two than three but if they consider that I must be three, I will accept and fight to try to win the matches and compete well with the rivals.”
