US-Iran tensions erupt as Tehran shoots down US drone claims Revolutionary Guard

The unmanned surveillance aircraft is said to have been downed by the Revolutionary Guard. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the drone had invaded its territory, Islamic Republic News Agency reported. The drone came down close to the village of Kuhmobarak, according to the Fars News Agency.

The US military have declined to comment on the claims.

The reported takedown comes after increasing tensions between the two countries following an attack in the Gulf of Oman last week.

A number of oil tankers were attacked on the strategic Hormuz Strait.

The US and UK accused Iran of being responsible for the incidents but Tehran has denied the allegations.

The US added the IRGC attempted to down one of its drones last week ahead of the tanker attack.
