‘I think he’ll be a big part of Chelsea’ – new manager sent message over one player

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

Clarke-Salter came through the academy at Chelsea, making his Premier League debut aged 18 in 2016.

However, he made just one first-team appearance for the Blues since then, in the EFL Cup two seasons later.

The centre-back has had three loan spells, the latest of which was his most successful, spending last term at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

Clarke-Salter is captaining England Under-21s at the European Under-21 Championship and O’Hara says it is a good time for him to impress.

“I think [Chelsea are] going to have to look at that [using Clarke-Salter],” O’Hara said.

“They’re going to have the transfer embargo, new manager coming in.

“They’re going to have to use their youth players and they’ve got a fantastic set up in terms of players they’ve had out on loan.

“They’ve got experience now, the Chelsea players that have gone out.

“I think he will be looking to push on, if he has a good tournament people are going to be watching him.

“The club will be watching and the national side so it’s important he has a good tournament, shows leadership skills.

“I think he’ll be a big part of Chelsea.”

Former Hull and Brighton defender Liam Rosenior is also a fan of Clarke-Salter.

“He’s someone that I’ve always kept my eye on,” Rosenior said.

“He was on loan at Sunderland, he had a difficult time there because Sunderland were struggling when he went there.

“But he went away to Vitesse Arnhem last season and by all accounts he was absolutely outstanding there in the top league in Holland.”
