Top Gear: 'Perfect' Viewers praise Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness in new line-up

Top Gear was back for a brand new series tonight as new presenters Paddy McGuinness, 45 and Freddie Flintoff, 41 joined Chris Harris, 44 on the BBC show.

Presenters Paddy and Freddie replaced Matt Le Blanc, 51, and Rory Reid, 39, who stepped down from the show last year.

On tonight’s series opener fans got to see the presenting trio embark on a tour of Ethiopia while each driving the same model of the first car they ever bought.

After the latest presenting shake-up fans of the BBC series praised the three hosts as they kicked off the latest series.

One said: “Loving the banter on #TopGear @BBCTwo can’t wait to see this series @PaddyMcGuinness @flintoff11 @harrismonkey.”

“Loving the new #TopGear or more to the point, loving the new #TopGearTrio as I like to call them!” another added.

“You lot are idiots. #TopGear is already a million times better than it’s been for years. Even better than the last few years with Clarkson and that,” defended one viewer.

A third remarked: “I think @BBC_TopGear has finally found the perfect combination..these three are very funny.

@harrismonkey @PaddyMcGuinness Freddie Flintoff #TopGear.”

However some viewers weren’t too sure as one tweeted: “What the hell happened to ‘TopGear’. It used to be a laugh. Now it’s just cringeworthy.”

“Somewhat enjoying the new #TopGear so far, but needs some new ideas, challenges to similar,” said another.

“I was so worried about the lack of air flow getting to my body I didn’t even worry about the smell but it smelled rank.”

But the presenters weren’t the only ones getting up to mischief as Take Me Out Presenter Paddy revealed an “amazing” encounter with a baboon in Borneo.

“You’re staying in digs were baboons are knocking at the window in the morning. It’s mad but amazing to see,” he remarked.

Elsewhere, Chris spilled all on a Hearse crash that occurred during filming.

When asked to name some of the unusual situations the presenter found himself in, Chris said: “Being upside down in a Hearse with a comedian and a cricket player behind me wondering if anyone of us was alive.”

Top Gear continues Sunday at 8pm on BBC Two
