Roger Federer reveals Halle Open goal and why his friends think the tournament is cool

Federer kick-starts his grass season in Halle where he will look to build momentum ahead of Wimbledon.

The Swiss star spent the last week resting after returning to clay for the first time in three years – which ended with a French Open semi-final defeat to Rafael Nadal.

He has been drawn against American John Millman, his conqueror from the 2018 US Open, in the first round.

And Federer is looking forward to the test and opportunity to get revenge.

“To win the tournament must always be the goal here in Halle,” said Federer.

“I’m injury free and I just love to play here. That’s why I’m feeling very good.

“It’s always extremely tough to play against John.

“It will be a great match in the first round.

“It will be a real test, however, maybe that’s exactly what I need.”

The Halle Open is the only event which Federer has signed a lifetime contract with.

And he plans on taking his friends to his hotel to show off the stunning views of the grounds.

“Where can you find a room with such a view? It is just incredibly beautiful,” Federer said of hotel which overlooks the stadium.

“When friends come here, they cannot believe that you can watch tennis from the hotel.

“It’s totally cool to see your friends and rivals from the balcony during their match.”

Federer lost the Halle Open final to Borna Coric last year.

But he is hoping to carry his French Open form into the clay season this time around.
