Kyle Edmund opens up on Stefanos Tsitsipas tie and Andy Murray return at Queen's

The British No 1 also explained he is happy to see Andy Murray returning to action for the first time since undergoing hip surgery.

Edmund has had his own injury issues over recent months and he withdrew from French Open during his second-round match because of a knee issue.

The Yorkshireman claims he is fully ready to compete, despite pulling out of the doubles draw as a precaution.

And he feels he can play pressure-free as all the expectation is on the top seed.

“It is tough in terms of he has played a lot, played very well and won a lot this year,” Edmund said of Tsitsipas.

“It is almost like a very ideal situation where there is no pressure to do well. It is almost everything is on him.

“Playing here you will get the support from the crowd.

“In a way there are quite a few positives and there is nothing for me to protect. I am not expected to win or anything like that.

“There are positives but at the same time it is a tough match but they are all tough matches here. You very rarely get a first round that is like a nice draw.”

Meanwhile, former world No 1 Murray will return to doubles action tomorrow alongside partner Fernando Verdasco.

And Edmund is glad his Davis Cup team-mate is making a strong recovery – but he insists it has no impact whatsoever on his own game.

“The return, it’s nice to see him in terms of for him,” Edmund added.

“In terms of for me, nothing changes with me. I don’t start to play better or more freely.

“It is good to see him back for who he is.

“I just carry on with my own business and my own schedule and stuff and do the best I can. From him being back it is good to see him back.

“It is never easy just to stop competing as a tennis player. I think he just wants to be on court. It is always a positive sign.”
