Riverdale saw Veronica Lodge (played by Camila Mendes) take on a much larger role in season three of The CW / Netflix show.
The heiress bought up Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe and added her own flavour to the mix – an underground speakeasy called La Bonne Nuit.
During this change Veronica began spending a lot more time with Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton) – before even starting a relationship with him.
However one thing that stood out with Reggie’s story was his relationship with his father.
Whilst the gang were learning all about The Midnight Club back in the first half of the season, each of the team were tasked with finding out as much as possible about the sordid teen group by asking their parents.
But, according to Riverdale fans, this could have laid the groundwork for a tragic Reggie story yet to come.
When Reggie asked his father, Marty (Matthew Yang King) about The Midnight Club, Reggie is hit, leaving his friends a little unnerved.
However nothing else seems to stem from this interaction, and some fans were a little perturbed by it.
One wrote on Reddit regarding the plot point: “We don’t know so much about Reggie’s character. In s3 we discover that his father hits him when he asks about the midnight club, so this was probably not the first time.
“They should involve him in a plot about this, as he only appears with Veronica in her night club business.”
While another went on to suggest Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) may have to step in and do something about it.
They said: “I absolutely agree, they need to do something about that.
“Frankly it was kind of shocking how no one seemed to care that Marty beat his son.
“My hopes are either Reggie wises up that his father is scum and cuts him out of his life.
“Or Archie and Jughead find out, react properly, and take advantage of the fact they both have plenty of tough guys who’ve sworn their allegiance to them, to ensure he stops.”
But if this is the case, could the gang take the attack too far and accidentally kill Reggie’s father?
If so, this would be the dead body and bloody teased in the final episode of season three, which saw Archie, Veronica, and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) burning their clothes on a bonfire.
Meanwhile, Jughead actor Cole recently told PopBuzz the character may see a huge change in the upcoming fourth season.
He said: “I think there’s a lot of potential and a lot of interesting narratives this season in the form of FP [Skeet Ulrich] and Jughead teaming up and playing the True Detective crime investigator father/son duo.
“I think there’s something really enjoyable about Jughead being the brain and FP being the brawn of that investigation.”
Riverdale returns to The CW and Netflix later this year.
