After making over $900 million at the global box office, Bohemian Rhapsody is getting even more love from fans on home entertainment. The Freddie Mercury movie has been in the Official Film Chart’s Top 10 for weeks and has now surpassed over one million copies sold in the UK. This includes both digital downloads and physical discs like Blu-ray and DVD. In the chart this week Bohemian Rhapsody came in at No 3, behind new entry The LEGO Movie 2 – The Second Part.
While the No 1 spot was taken by Stan & Ollie, which jumped 28 places to the top spot following its release on disc.
Perhaps this is down to the Laurel and Hardy film appealing primarily to an older audience, who are less likely to purchase digital downloads over a Blu-ray or DVD copy.
Meanwhile, Rami Malek’s Freddie Mercury almost cameoed in Elton John biopic Rocketman.
Dexter Fletcher, who directed the latter and the last two weeks of Bohemian Rhapsody’s shoot revealed how it almost came to be.
Speaking with Gay Star News, Fletcher revealed: “There was an idea I had one point, where Elton’s in a restaurant with his mother.
“I thought John Reid and Freddie could be at another table and they wave at each other!
“That would have been amazing, [but] it didn’t come to pass.
“It would’ve been a little too knowing…I’m not looking to set out to make a cinematic universe!”
Following Bohemian Rhapsody’s success, a sequel could be on the way.
Speaking to Page Six, Queen music video director Rudi Dolezal said of Jim Beach, the band’s manager: “I’m sure he plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid.”
He added a sequel is “being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”
While Brian May has said: “Who knows, there might be a sequel.”
